Fall's Top Fashion Trends
Shine On! While eye-blinding metallics were the rage a year or two ago, this trend has matured to a delightfully refined stage. Think of softly reflective fabrics, understated sheens, and patent leather trims that glimmer. What I love about the shimmer trend is that the fabric interest brings a subtle new twist to an outfit. Think of charcoal grey pants with flecks of metallic woven into the fabric with a rich shimmering charmeuse grey blouse for instance. Handbags and scarves are a great place to express this trend. I love opportunities to be glamorous and understated at the same time.
Capes and Capelets It's fun to have a new silhouette for a wrap, especially in El Paso where lighter winter wraps are so incredibly useful. Think of Sherlock Holmes. Now update that to 2007 modern. Wear it over your favorite camisole or tank for a cool night out.
Splashes of Bold Animal Prints My favorites are animal print trench coats that you can throw over everything this winter. Most popular are leopard, cheetah, lynx and reptile prints. As technology increases, they say we are even more drawn to anything reminiscent of nature and animals.
Day Dresses Continue Women have adopted the daytime dress trend and it's not stopping any time soon. After decades of not wearing day dresses, women are rediscovering their versatility and ease. Of course now a dress can be worn alone in classic style, over leggings or jeans as a tunic, or over t-shirts for a layered look. My favorite are optic prints.
Optic Graphic Prints Graphic black and white prints offer a pop of energy and brightness to what can be a more somber season. Futuristic graphic prints, optic prints reminiscent of the 60's, even buffalo checks, and oversized houndstooth patterns.
Interesting Statement Coats You just can't imagine the wonderful fun options in winter coats: billowing 3/4 sleeves, empire styles, trapeze shapes, girlie 7/8th coats to match your dress, and trench coats.
Pop Colors: Bright accents worn with charcoal grays and browns Great accent colors are melon, periwinkle, violet, yellows and reds. I am thrilled that grays are coming back as a base color. This trend offers the most fun and zip of all the fall trends.
Clutch Handbags The clutch says, "I know what's hot." Handbags have become the way to make a statement and are the cornerstone of any well-dressed woman's outfit. The clutch bag is the new handbag shape of the fall season.
Turtlenecks In the race toward fall '07, the turtleneck has taken a lead as one of the season's key fashion pieces. Look for it in a variety of patterns and textures, from beefy cableknits to fine-gauge sweaters that can be worn with or without a tailored jacket.
Sleeve Details "Wear your heart on your sleeve," this fall. You can tell a jacket, coat, blouse or knit top is new if it has an interesting full sleeve. Sleeves with volume are lantern sleeves, leg of mutton sleeves, puff sleeves, balloon sleeves and kimono sleeves. Ruffles and pleats add interesting detail.
