FUR STORAGE, CLEANING AND ALTERATIONS
Storage
Tres Mariposas offers state of the art, secure storage for your
valuable furs.
According to the Fur Information Council of America, professional
storage during summer months is most important in extending the
longevity of your furs.
Home storage, using air conditioning or a cedar closet will not
protect your fur from drying out, heat damage, insect damage, or
oxidizing which can discolor fur or change its texture.
TRES offers fur storage specifically designed to protect the lasting
quality of your fur garment in temperature, humidity and light-controlled
environment. Temperatures are kept below 50 degrees Fahrenheit with
a constant humidity level.
Cleaning
To maintain their luster, fur garments should be professionally
cleaned every year or every other year depending on wear. Tres Mariposas
offers expert cleaning of furs. Cleaning a fur is a special process
of tumbling the fur in a drum with sawdust that has been soaked
in a specially formulated solution. The sawdust absorbs the dirt
and oils. The garment can then be glazed to bring out the sheen
and make it soft and fluffy.
Alterations
One of the beauties of fur is that it can be repaired, altered,
or remodeled over time to provide a garment that can be worn for
many, many years. Tres Mariposas provides expert fur alterations
that are available very few places in the United States. Our fur
alteration professional has over 30 years experience working with
fine furs. Special state of the art fur machinery is used.
FUR CARE
Knowing how to care for your fur will extend the life and beauty
of your fur garment.
- Store your fur in a professional, climatically controlled storage
facility during the warmer months.
- Have your fur cleaned every year or every other year, depending
on wear.
- Hang your fur on a broad or padded hangar to maintain the shape
of the garment.
- Furs do not like plastic. Never store your fur in plastic garment
bags. Use a cotton or silk garment bag instead.
- Normal amounts of water from rain do not harm furs. If your
fur gets wet simply shake it out and hang it in a dry space.
- Avoid exposing your fur to oils in perfumes.
- Make sure your insurance coverage is adequate. Contact your
insurance company to provide them with specific information on
your fur.
